Aintree Science Formula Electrolyte Supplement

Increases stamina and improves performance. Aids rapid recovery after heavy work or racing. reduces premature fatigue, muscle cramps and dehydration.

Replaces sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium and magnesium electrolytes lost due to sweating.

Suitable for multiple dosing during prolonged exercise. can be fed with the feed or dissolved in water for an isotonic solution.

Replacing electrolytes is essential

During exercise horses lose large amounts of body fluid, in the form of sweat. Sweating is a natural cooling mechanism to control body temperature in hot weather and during exercise. Horses can sweat at rates approaching 10-15 litres per hour when working very hard in the heat. Sweat is composed of water and vital nutrients called electrolytes, both of which must be replaced in order to avoid dehydration, reduced stamina, premature fatigue, muscle cramps and poor recovery after exercise.

Supplementation of electrolytes is essential to address the immediate shortfall caused by sweating, as horses cannot maintain large stores of electrolytes within the body. Regular electrolyte supplementation during periods of strenuous work or stress is therefore essential; the provision of a salt lick may not sufficiently replenish all nutrients lost in sweat and intake is uncontrolled and therefore variable.

Electrolytes available for supplementation vary in quality and effectiveness. Science Formula Electrolyte Supplement contains the key electrolytes lost in sweat - sodium, potassium and chloride, along with smaller amounts of bioavailable calcium and magnesium. Based on current research, the ratio of sodium: potassium: chloride provided has been carefully formulated. The carbohydrate base improves palatability and may ease absorption, without detracting from the electrolyte content.

Note: Ensure that fresh water is always available with electrolyte supplementation. Small frequent drinks of water should be offered during and/or following strenuous exercise, until the horse is cool. Feed Science Formula Electrolyte Supplement following hard work, either as required or continually for horses that sweat regularly. If heavy sweating is anticipated (i.e. a race) you may feed one dose prior to the race and depending on the severity of work and degree of sweat loss, continue to supplement for several days thereafter. For horses or camels in hard competitive work, feeding Iron Energy Concentrate Supplement and Aintree E (1000/2000) is recommended, in order to achieve optimum performance and help avoid reduced stamina, premature fatigue and poor recovery from exercise. If in doubt about the health or condition of your horse or camel, you should seek veterinary advice.
